Innovative models are emerging to address these challenges. A 2025 pilot study integrated gender-affirming psychiatric care within primary care for transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive individuals. The results were striking: patient depression and anxiety symptoms significantly improved from pre- to post-treatment. Primary care providers approved of the model and desired expanded offerings.
