Raima Sen was born Raima Dev Varma on 7 November 1979 in Bombay (present-day Mumbai). Her mother, Moon Moon Sen, is a celebrated actress, while her father, Bharat Dev Varma, is a descendant of the royal family of Tripura and Cooch Behar, giving Raima an aristocratic lineage on both sides. Her maternal grandmother, Suchitra Sen, remains one of the most revered figures in Bengali cinema. Her sister, Riya Sen, is also a well-known Bollywood actress.

In an interview discussing the ordeal, Raima displayed a resilient attitude, stating, “ Bad publicity is still publicity ”. She added that she was judged without people having even watched the film. This incident highlights the pressures of modern media, where political affiliations and artistic choices are often conflated. Raima has also used her platform to speak out on societal issues, particularly regarding the safety of women.
