When Assassin's Creed II launched on PC in March 2010, Ubisoft debuted its Online Services platform. This system required a persistent internet connection to play the game, even during the single-player campaign. If a user's internet connection dropped for even a few seconds, the gameplay paused immediately, throwing the player back to the main menu or a loading screen.
