Born in 1992 in the historic city of Kyoto, was not raised on J-Pop radio hits. Instead, her childhood soundtrack was the ambient noise of Kiyomizu-dera’s waterfalls and her grandmother’s collection of Enka records. However, it was a chance listening to Billie Holiday’s Strange Fruit at age fifteen that shattered her perception of what the human voice could do. Rina Ishihara
