Creating a film that captured this frenetic energy was a monumental challenge for director Wayne Isham. As frontman Joe Elliott recalled, "We had great camera men on the shoot. They had worked on Platoon , Apocalypse Now and we had to have guys like that". The director prepared meticulously, attending seven different shows on the tour before the Denver filming. Despite all the prep, the first night's shoot was a disaster. Isham was in a state of panic because the band moved so much and so unpredictably that his carefully planned static shots became obsolete. The crew had to spend the entire next day altering all their cranes and camera dollies to adapt to the band's kinetic performance. As Elliott stated, "The majority of the film you see is from the second evening... It was difficult to focus on one guy, so the camera work had to be fast moving. That's the way we are on stage.
