The central conflict is as much between Steven and David as it is between Nicole and David. Steven’s overprotective nature inadvertently pushes Nicole right into David’s arms. The film highlights the toxic nature of male possessiveness from both sides: David wants to own Nicole completely, while Steven struggles to accept his daughter’s growing autonomy and sexuality.
