Born on December 12, 1947, in Istanbul's Yenikapı neighborhood, Hülya Koçyiğit is the eldest daughter of Bulgarian immigrant Sedat Koçyiğit and homemaker Melek Koçyiğit. She completed her primary education in Istanbul and Ankara, continuing to Atatürk Girls' High School while also training at the Ankara State Conservatory's ballet department.
